REDPARQUES Marine Coastal Group aims primarily at strengthening regional capacities in the management of marine protected areas and increasing the percentage of these areas, as per recommendation of the Second Latin American Congress on National Parks and other Protected Areas held in Bariloche (Argentina), as well as advancing in the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Targets of the Convention on Biological Diversity. In addition, it intends to support the countries in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS), that is why this Stand will be the place to discuss and exchange views and experiences in a dynamic way from the human perspective of conservation, with the aim of transmitting the need to define public policies towards sustainable development.
The Stand will have three areas: one to disseminate with books and brochures the work the REDPARQUES countries are doing in the area of conservation of marine coastal biodiversity; another one to show images with attributes and human relationships behind protected marine coastal areas; and finally a space for dialogue, where relevant actors such as mayors of coastal cities, artisanal fishermen, scholars, scientists, government technicians, among others, are invited to share their convictions, apprehensions and visions about conservation of coastal marine biodiversity with the public.
